Wild Turkey
     
    Description: From 3 to 4 feet long, the male is mainly bronze with black bars. His head and neck are naked. His tail is broad and can be displayed opened up like a fan. The female is smaller. She lays from 8 - 20 whitish eggs with red or brown marks. The eggs hatch in about 28 days , and the young stay with their mother through the winter.

    Habitat: Wild turkeys live in woods, swamps and forest areas. Their nest are depressions in the ground, lined with leaves and often placed near a clearing.

    Foods: They eat insects, berries, seeds and nuts.

    Did you know?: Wild turkeys feed and nest on the ground. They go into a tree at night to roost.
